June 2026 General Meeting Recap

What a night! Thank you to everyone who packed the house at Round Table Pizza for our June general membership meeting. The energy in the room was incredible.

A special thank you to Stockton City Councilmember Mario Enriquez for joining us. We always appreciate our elected officials taking the time to connect directly with members.

We left the meeting having elected our new 2026–2027 Executive Board, welcomed 6 new dues-paying members to Stockton Democrats Together, and celebrated 4 lucky raffle winners who walked away with prizes ranging from t-shirts to bracelets.

This is what grassroots organizing looks like. Neighbors showing up, getting involved, and building something together. We couldn’t do this without you. See you at our next meeting on July 27th!

P.S. Read below for more detailed updates from our discussion at our June meeting.

New Executive Board (2026–2027)

Members unanimously elected a new E-Board to lead SDT for the coming term:

  • President — David Sengthay

  • Vice President — Travis Castle

  • Secretary — Colleen Keenan

  • Treasurer — Allyson Aranda

We want to thank outgoing President Allyson Aranda for her leadership. We’re glad she continues to serve the club as Treasurer. Secretary Colleen Keenan also continues in her role, ensuring continuity on the Board.

As incoming President, David Sengthay will focus on strengthening SDT’s coalition work across San Joaquin County, supporting our endorsed candidates through the November election, and emboldening the club’s advocacy on local governance and accountability issues.

Incoming Vice President Travis Castle is excited to grow SDT’s membership through community events and new partnerships with local labor unions, deepening the club’s ties to working families across Stockton.

June 2026 Primary Results

We reviewed the certified June 2026 primary results at the meeting, including all three Stockton City Council runoffs (Districts 1, 3, and 5) headed to November, as well as San Joaquin County’s vote in every federal and state race on the ballot.

SDT Bylaws Amendments · July 27th Meeting

The Executive Board has been working on a set of amendments to the bylaws that will be emailed to all members in final form ahead of our July 27th meeting, where they’ll be up for a vote. Key changes include:

  • Updated provisions for how SDT coordinates its endorsement process with the San Joaquin County Democratic Central Committee (DCC)

  • A clearer framework for the club’s advocacy activity and public statements

Per our bylaws, members must receive the final amendment language at least 20 days before the vote. Please watch your inbox for that email soon.

Endorsements: How SDT’s Process Works with the DCC

As we head into the November general election, SDT will be participating in San Joaquin County’s coordinated endorsement process alongside other local Democratic clubs. Here’s how it works: candidates go through a shared round of countywide interviews, but each club makes its own independent recommendation.

Those recommendations are then presented to the DCC, which holds the final vote on official Democratic Party endorsements in the county. As a chartered club, SDT’s recommendations feed directly into that DCC process, and SDT is eligible to disburse funds to DCC-endorsed candidates. The Truman Club of San Joaquin and Central Valley Stonewall Democrats are also welcome to join the shared countywide interviews. Still, as non-DCC-chartered clubs, they make their own endorsements and funding decisions at their discretion.

More details on our endorsement timeline and how to get involved will be shared soon.

Resolution: Affirming the Grand Jury Report Findings

At our June meeting, we also reviewed the findings of the San Joaquin County Civil Grand Jury’s recent report on Stockton city governance, “Governance in Turmoil.” The report addresses the City Council collectively — without naming individual members — and documents ongoing public infighting, leadership instability following the City Manager’s departure, gaps in Brown Act compliance, and a pattern of incomplete follow-through on the Grand Jury’s past oversight recommendations. The City Council is required to formally respond to these findings by September 23, 2026.

The Grand Jury paired its findings with a broader reform agenda — including councilmember ethics training, a rewritten Code of Ethics, and formal social media guidelines. Consistent with the Grand Jury’s own reform-focused, name-free approach, SDT’s resolution affirms three of these reforms as our club’s formal platform:

  • An independent Ethics Commission, modeled on Sacramento’s, to oversee ethics, Brown Act, and conflict-of-interest compliance

  • A local campaign contribution-limit ordinance, comparable to those in San Francisco, Oakland, and Los Angeles

  • An election-transparency ordinance requiring consultants and candidates to disclose business and financial relationships

  • Charter §408 and fiscal-process training, a rewritten Code of Ethics, and written social media guidelines for Council members

Members will vote on this resolution at the July 27th meeting.
