How this was built
- Each fiscal year's roster comes from the council page of the City of Stockton adopted budget (the 2010-11 roster comes from the 2010-15 Capital Improvement Plan). Budgets show who held office in June.
- Election results come from the California Elections Data Archive (CEDA) city offices reports, compiled by CSU Sacramento from county election offices.
- Terms run four years and begin in January after the election. The Mayor and Districts 2, 4 and 6 are elected in presidential years; Districts 1, 3 and 5 in midterm years.
- Through 2016, council candidates ran in a district primary and the top two met again in a citywide general election; the vote totals show this. From 2018 on, both rounds are by district, and a council candidate with a majority in the primary is elected outright. A mayoral candidate with a majority in the primary has always been elected outright.
- Mid-term dates come from the sources listed with each change. Where only the year is known, the bar is drawn at the start of that year.
- Vice Mayor years follow the June budgets; exact start dates are not recorded here.
- Later offices are elected or appointed government posts held after Stockton council service, checked against at least one source listed below. Lost campaigns, jobs, and regional boards a person sat on only because of another office are left out.
