Stockton Democrats Together Statement Honoring Dolores Huerta’s Courage and Addressing Abuse of Power in the Farmworker Movement

Stockton Democrats Together unequivocally condemns all forms of abuse of power. No individual, regardless of stature or contributions, is exempt from accountability. Harm, especially within movements founded on justice and dignity, must be addressed directly and without exception.

We stand in full solidarity with survivors of sexual violence. Their experiences must be believed, respected, and supported. Ensuring survivors feel safe to come forward is essential to building communities rooted in trust and justice.

We also recognize the historic and lasting achievements of the farmworker movement. Generations of organizers and workers secured labor protections, workplace dignity, and fundamental rights for some of the most marginalized communities in our country. These accomplishments remain significant and deserve to be honored as part of our collective history here in the Central Valley.

We commend Dolores Huerta for her courage in speaking out after decades of silence. Her decision reflects profound strength and underscores the importance of truth, even when it is difficult. Her lifelong leadership in advancing workers’ rights and social justice continues to shape our communities — particularly here in Stockton, where she was raised.

This moment calls for thoughtful and constructive dialogue about how we remember history and whom we honor in our public institutions. We encourage our community and local elected leaders to engage in these conversations with care, integrity, and a commitment to our shared values of dignity, accountability, and justice.

Stockton Democrats Together remains committed to advancing a future in which our institutions reflect these values and in which all members of our community are treated with respect and care.
